Good read. Two things that I saw missing were the impact of open source software and the the perpetual rush for bling.
When software is free to use, modify & distribute, it is harder to establish a monopoly. Platforms are possible, but helps make the technology more responsive to the needs of community, because it is often driven by a community of developers, businesses and users.
There is so much push to get the latest, shiny, flashy thing in the tech world. There is almost no incentive to see that technology is secure, accessible and sustainable. Nice to remember how important & difficult maintenance is, and how often economic systems don’t support this:
