I love the aspiration to achieve the “highest standards of accessibility” but that’s much more than what is reasonable to expect. I’m ok, with striving for more, but it is just a lot higher than what is being achieved now. Meeting WCAG 2.1 AA is the goal of most modern legislation. That’s achievable with changes in practice, culture and a lot of effort. AAA compliance is the highest level described in WCAG and that still leaves out some folks.

I don’t know how to balance the technical guidelines with a nice and compelling vision statement. I’ve just seen too many documents that make vague comments about accessibility but where there isn’t the awareness about the level of effort required to actually pull it off. I guess it is good to reach for the stars.

Thanks for sharing these Draft Principles Jaimie. Appreciate the you specifically mentioning open-source too! BC’s got a lot to share with other governments in Canada.
